The aim of the club is to provide a focus for those interested in gardens and gardening. We have meetings on the 4th Tuesday of the month at the Village Hall, where we hope to stimulate this interest with talks and demonstrations given by experts in their particular field of horticulture.
However, it is not our intention to be a classroom; we gather as much in the hope of growing friendships as in growing plants. This is why we all so look forward to our meetings and our days out visiting gardens round the country; how better to enjoy one’s pastimes than to be in the company of friends who share one’s interests.
This is never more true than when forty or so of us go off on our ‘long-weekend’ to visit areas of gardening interest not accessible on our day-trips. We are revisiting Devon and Cornwall in 2002.
The competitions we hold monthly for the best ‘this or that’ grown by one of us not only allow some of us to shine, but also bring out a wonderful shared sense of achievement and fun. You should see our Pot Leeks, spring onions at their finest!
We have first rate slide projection and sound equipment to enhance the presentations of our speakers, thus allowing all our members to see and hear comfortably.
Presently we have 96 members. As the comfort and safety of our members is paramount, we intend to restrict the membership to a maximum of around 100. However, there will always be room for us to welcome a visitor or three at any meeting they wish to attend.
